Frequently Asked Questions

When is the best time to visit Maui?

Any time of year is the right time to visit Maui. The average temperature here is between 75˚–85˚F.  Summer, between April and November, is warmer and drier while winter, between December and March, is a bit cooler.

The high season is winter (mid-Dec through April). Winter is big-wave surf season on Maui’s North Shore. High season generally means more people.

Whale-watching season begins in December and ends in May. Peak whale-watching months are between January and March.

Summer seems to be the choice for families with children.

Spring (April, May) and Fall (September to November) usually means lower rates and fewer crowds.

Why should I stay in a daHiLife condo instead of a resort or hotel?

A condo provides much more space than the average Hawaii hotel room. Our units have a separate bedroom, a living room with sleeper sofa, a dining space, a kitchen, two full baths and a lanai for morning coffee or sunset dining.

Our units include a washer and dryer. For long stays or just for packing light, having the ability to wash clothes can be very convenient.

Parking your rental car at a hotel in Hawaii can be pretty pricey — in the range of $20 to $40 per night. You'll have a reserved parking space at our units, close and convenient to the condos. In comparison, you could have a very long walk from the parking area or lobby to your room at some hotels.

Having the ability to make some meals can be a big budget saver, especially for families. When you consider that hotel breakfast buffets can run upwards of $40 per person per day, you can quickly get an idea of the savings to be able to make simple breakfasts in your condo.

What should I pack?

It’s warm on Maui, so pack your summer attire. You may want to pack a light jacket or sweater for the evenings, or cold-weather clothes if you plan to visit Haleakala. Resort wear is appropriate for a night out.
Dining is really very casual, even at the most expensive restaurants. Men wear khakis or shorts and a polo or short sleeve shirt. Aloha shirts are very popular around here! Women generally wear a sundress or something equally comfortable.  And, I never see anyone in heels!
Don’t worry if you forget something—Maui’s stores have everything you need, including plenty of sunscreen.

Is a rental car necessary on Maui?

You can get around Maui by shuttle, tour bus, rideshare, taxi or public transportation. But to really experience Maui, you would be well advised to rent a car.

Should I make activity reservations before I arrive?

You may want to give yourself a little flexibility, but we would generally recommend advance reservations for whale watching tours, luau seats, scuba gear and snuba dives, Haleakala at sunrise, sunset cruises, helicopter tours and some of the must-do restaurants.

When can I see the whales?

If you want to be sure to see the most whales in the ocean, it is best to plan your trip for the peak whale times of mid-January to the beginning of March. You're likely to see a few as early as November/December. And a few may stay til May.

"We had a wonderful stay at this lovely condo. Beautiful property and grounds; staff was so kind. Jill was a wonderful communicator and answered any questions right away. I've never stayed at such a well thought out and provisioned place - they have thought of every detail to make the stay excellent. Good location; great beaches and so much excellent food close by. Definitely would come back again!! Thank you Jill!"
